South Florida Faces Severe Flooding and Heavy Rainfall
A slow-moving storm system with deep tropical moisture has caused severe flooding in South Florida, leading to over a foot of rainfall in multiple areas. Seven million people remain under a flood watch, with warnings of more intense rain and potential flash floods from the National Weather Service. The Miami metro area, which is already severely impacted, could flood with less than 0.25 inches of additional rain. On Wednesday, Governor Ron DeSantis declared an emergency in several counties, and multiple cities also issued emergency declarations. The heavy rain has caused road closures, flight delays, and evacuations, with fire services rescuing dozens from stranded vehicles and homes. Notable rainfall included 19 inches in Hallandale Beach and 9.54 inches in Fort Lauderdale, marking its wettest June day on record. The storm is predicted to bring another 5 to 10 inches of rain through Saturday morning.
