Macron Honors Oradour-sur-Glane Massacre Anniversary

In a visit to Oradour-sur-Glane, President Emmanuel Macron commemorated the 80th anniversary of the SS massacre that claimed 643 lives, emphasizing the importance of remembrance to prevent history from repeating itself. Meanwhile, the National Rally (NR), led by Marine Le Pen, has seen a significant rise in support across various demographics, particularly among women and younger voters, achieving 34% in recent polls ahead of a snap parliamentary election. The party’s appeal is largely attributed to public concerns over violent crime and insecurity, which have reached alarming levels in France, including soaring rates of rapes and assaults. Far-left activists have protested against the NR’s success, leading to violent clashes with police. Despite internal tensions within the French left, the Socialists, Communists, Greens, and La France Insoumise (LFI) have united to challenge the NR in the upcoming elections. Le Pen remains optimistic, banking on the support of a “Silent Majority” disillusioned with both Macron and the left.
