Severe Weather and Heat Advisory in Chicago Area
Summary:
Following severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings, over 17,000 people in the Chicago area remain without power. Another round of severe weather is expected Monday afternoon and evening, with threats of destructive winds up to 75 mph, large hail, tornadoes, and flash flooding. Storms are anticipated to reach far western Illinois by 4 p.m. and Chicago by 7-9 p.m., dissipating overnight. An "enhanced" risk level has been issued by the NWS.
Additionally, a heat advisory is in effect, with dangerous heat indices of 100-110°F expected, particularly in western and southwestern counties. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid the sun, and check on vulnerable individuals. Cooling centers will open at 9 a.m. to help residents cope with the heat.
