HEDA and NiMet Launch Training for Nigerian Farmers
Summary:
The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre), in collaboration with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and supported by Oxfam through the African Activists for Climate Justice (AACJ) project, has initiated a series of workshops aimed at educating over 500 small-scale farmers, extension workers, and staff of Agricultural Development Programmes (ADP) across ten Nigerian states. The workshops, held in Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, Benue, Adamawa, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Ekiti, and Osun states, focused on providing training on climate predictions and crop weather calendars to better prepare for the upcoming farming seasons. Sulaimon Arigbabu, Executive Secretary of HEDA, emphasized that the initiative aims to improve agricultural practices and enhance the well-being of farming communities by equipping participants with essential climate prediction tools. The collaboration between HEDA and NiMet underscores a long-term commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector through improved climate planning resources.
