Beryl Hits Texas Coast: Storm Update

Tropical Storm Beryl Hits Texas with Record-Breaking Force

Summary:
Last week, Tropical Storm Beryl became the earliest recorded Category 5 Atlantic hurricane before heading towards the Texas coast, where it made landfall on Monday. After being downgraded while crossing Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Beryl was forecast to intensify again before landfall, potentially reaching wind speeds of 74-95 mph with gusts up to 120 mph. The storm poses multiple threats, including strong winds, torrential rain, flooding, and tornadoes. A coastal flood warning is in effect for Texas and parts of Louisiana, with storm surges possibly reaching six feet. A flash flood threat has also been issued, with up to 200mm of rainfall expected in eastern Texas within 24 hours. Additionally, southeastern Europe is bracing for extreme heat, with temperatures projected to soar 10°C above average, particularly affecting Romania, Serbia, and Hungary. The heatwave is expected to last until July 16.
