Tripura Government Launches Underground Electricity Cable Project
The Tripura government is initiating a major project to install underground electricity cables in urban areas like Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) to prevent power outages during the monsoon season, according to state Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath. The project, which addresses the vulnerability of over-ground electric transmission to cyclone damage, will cover areas including AMC, Khumulwng, Dharmanagar, and Udaipur. It is expected to cost Rs 2,010 crore and will involve borrowing funds and hiring expert companies for implementation. Nath also urged residents to regularize their electrical load to help reduce power cuts, pointing out that unauthorized AC usage is a significant issue.
