Climate Resilience Measures by Towngas Amid Typhoon Season
Summary:
As Hong Kong faces increasing extreme weather, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) has implemented several climate resilience measures at the start of the typhoon season. These include enhanced flood prevention at the Tai Po Gas Production Plant and the use of ultrasonic technology for pipeline inspections. Towngas aims to ensure a safe and reliable gas supply and plans to introduce zero-carbon fuels to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. In response to past severe weather events, the company has upgraded its infrastructure, invested HK$1.9 billion in the past two years for pipeline and plant equipment improvements, and continues to conduct climate risk assessments and emergency preparedness drills. Towngas also promotes low-carbon energy solutions to its customers to reduce carbon emissions further.
