Tornado Season Disrupts Twisters Filming

Where Was Twisters Filmed?

Summary:
"Twisters," the highly anticipated standalone sequel to the 1996 disaster film "Twister," stars Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones and is set to hit theaters on July 19. The film was predominantly shot in Oklahoma, mirroring its setting, although some scenes were filmed in Los Angeles. Principal photography began in May 2023 in Oklahoma City but faced delays due to the Screen Actors Guild strike and challenging real-life weather conditions. Filming locations in Oklahoma included downtown Oklahoma City, Chickasha, El Reno, Okarche, Midwest City, Yukon, and Cashion. Director Lee Isaac Chung, who has a personal connection to Tornado Alley, insisted on shooting in Oklahoma despite considerations to film in Georgia. The original "Twister" (1996) also faced weather-related challenges but of a different nature, as the weather was unusually calm during its production. "Twisters" aims to bring intense and realistic tornado scenes to the big screen, with the unpredictability of real tornado season adding to the film’s authenticity.
