Texas Mobilizes Emergency Resources Ahead of Potential Tropical Cyclone
Texas has activated its state emergency response resources in anticipation of heavy rains from a potential Tropical Cyclone 1 in the Gulf of Mexico. The primary impact is expected along the Texas coast, with the Houston area bracing for significant rainfall starting Wednesday.
Governor Greg Abbott announced the activation of resources on Monday, emphasizing the state’s readiness to support Southeast Texas communities at risk. He urged residents to stay informed and follow local officials’ guidance, highlighting the importance of safety with the slogan, "Turn Around, Don’t Drown."
The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) has mobilized several agencies and resources, including:
- Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service: Urban search and rescue teams, and swiftwater rescue boat squads.
- Texas National Guard: High profile vehicles and helicopters with hoist capabilities.
- Texas Parks and Wildlife Department: Search and rescue boats.
- Texas Department of Public Safety: Tactical marine boats, rescue swimmers, and search and rescue aircraft with hoist capability.
- Texas Department of Transportation: High-profile vehicles and road monitoring.
- Texas Department of State Health Services: Severe Weather Packages.
Additionally, the Texas A&M Forestry Service, Public Utilities of Texas, Railroad Commission of Texas, and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality are prepared for emergency response.
Texans are advised to stay alert to warnings from the Emergency Alert System and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, maintain an emergency supply kit, and secure important documents in waterproof containers. Caution is urged when driving, particularly to avoid flooded areas.
