Severe Weather Alert for Jamaica

Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 storm with winds of 145mph, is currently impacting Jamaica with life-threatening conditions after causing significant devastation in the eastern Caribbean. The storm has already knocked down power lines in Portland, leading officials to declare Jamaica a disaster area and impose a curfew. Over 900 shelters are available, and evacuations are underway for those in flood-prone areas. The hurricane has claimed at least seven lives and caused “unimaginable” destruction in Grenada, where 98% of buildings were damaged or destroyed. Jamaica’s Prime Minister has mobilized the Constabulary and Defense Forces to maintain order and assist with disaster relief. The storm is expected to approach the Cayman Islands tonight and could potentially affect southern Texas and Louisiana over the weekend.
