Oklahoma Twister Relief Concert Draws Massive Crowd in 2013

On this day in 2013, nearly 65,000 people gathered at Oklahoma University’s football stadium for the Oklahoma Twister Relief Concert. The event, headlined by Garth Brooks, was organized to support victims of a devastating EF5 tornado that struck Moore, Oklahoma, in May 2013, killing 24 people and destroying over 1,000 homes. Proceeds from the sold-out concert benefited the United Way of Central Oklahoma May Tornadoes Relief Fund. The lineup featured performances by Toby Keith, Trisha Yearwood, Willie Nelson, Carrie Underwood (via satellite), Sammy Hagar, Ronnie Dunn, Mel Tillis, and John Anderson. Many attendees cited personal experiences with tornadoes as their motivation for attending the fundraiser.
