Federal Aid Approved for Hurricane Beryl Victims in 15 Texas Counties
HOUSTON, Texas – Federal assistance is now available to residents and business owners impacted by Hurricane Beryl across 15 Texas counties. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved aid on July 12, following damage assessments. The counties eligible for aid include Brazoria, Chambers, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker, and Wharton.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, currently acting as governor while Governor Greg Abbott is on a pre-planned trip to Asia, announced the addition of individual assistance to Texas’ federal disaster declaration. The FEMA aid covers temporary housing, emergency home repairs, uninsured or underinsured property losses, disaster legal services, unemployment assistance, and medical, dental, and funeral expenses related to the storm.
The state has also requested the inclusion of Fort Bend and Nacogdoches counties, with the possibility of more counties being added later.
Affected Texans can apply for assistance via FEMA’s Disaster Assistance portal or by calling 1-800-621-3362. Those using relay services should provide their service number to FEMA. Residents are also advised to report property damage to the state and their insurance companies if applicable.
