According to the district education officer, the cyclone has completely destroyed 12 institutions, while 100 have suffered partial damage. The affected institutions are distributed as follows: 37 in Bhola Sadar upazila, 11 in Borhanuddin upazila, 18 in Tazumuddin, 19 in Lalmohan, 17 in Char Fasson, and 10 in Monpura.
A visit to the Madhya Paschim Balia Dakhil Madrasa in Dakshin Dighdi union under Sadar upazila revealed the collapse of tin-shed classrooms. In several places, the tin roofs were missing.
Teachers and students at the madrasa reported that the cyclone had devastated their institution. Without the tin roofs, students are unable to attend classes due to rain and intense sunlight. Classes are being conducted in cramped conditions in the remaining classrooms, causing severe discomfort in the heat.
This lack of repairs has led to a significant drop in student attendance at the damaged institutions, a scenario common across many other affected schools and madrasas.
Both students and teachers are urgently calling for prompt repair and reconstruction to restore a normal learning environment.
District Education Officer Deepak Haldar told UNB that a list of the damaged institutions has been sent to the Directorates of Madrasa and Secondary Education. He hoped that the repair work on these damaged educational institutions will begin soon.
