Tropical Storm Alberto Brings Heavy Rains to Mexico and Texas
The first tropical storm of the Atlantic season, named Alberto, has formed over the Gulf of Mexico, bringing heavy rains to northeast Mexico and southern Texas. The National Hurricane Center reported that Alberto, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and tropical storm-force winds extending up to 415 miles, is moving towards the Mexican coast at 9 mph and is expected to make landfall early Thursday.
In Texas, Surfside has already experienced nearly 4 inches of rain, causing evacuations and street flooding. Galveston and Jamaica Beach have also seen significant flooding, affecting local events and traffic. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from San Luis Pass, Texas, to Puerto de Altamira, Mexico. Rainfall could reach up to 20 inches in some areas, potentially causing flash floods, urban flooding, river flooding, and mudslides in higher terrains. The storm is expected to weaken and dissipate over Mexico by Thursday night.
