Bougainville Secures Comprehensive Agriculture Insurance

The Autonomous Bougainville Government has partnered with Agri-Assurance Limited (AAL) to provide unlimited insurance coverage for the region’s agriculture sector. This initiative, launched in Port Moresby, aims to protect key agricultural resources such as vanilla, cocoa, copra, coffee, rubber, and food crops against natural disasters caused by climate change. The insurance also covers properties and assets associated with agriculture.
AAL chairman Dickson Popo emphasized the importance of insurance for economic investment and development in Bougainville. The insurance program includes three categories: MACRO (government and infrastructure), MICRO (farmers and individuals), and MESO (assets and business trading).
AAL will open an office in Buka next week and conduct a roadshow to educate the people of North, Central, and South Bougainville on the benefits of insurance. President Ishmael Toroama highlighted the lack of insurance for the past 34 years and expressed his support for the initiative, which he believes will attract investors and boost economic development in Bougainville.
