Europe Heatwave Kills Two Amid Record Temperatures

Elderly Deaths Rise as Heatwave Hits Cyprus

A second elderly person has died from heatstroke in Cyprus amid a weeklong heatwave that has brought record temperatures, soaring past 40°C (104°F). An 84-year-old woman succumbed a day after being hospitalized, following the death of a 91-year-old woman. Several other elderly patients remain in serious condition. Fires continue to rage across Cyprus, exacerbated by the heat and strong winds. Southern Europe is facing record temperatures, with Greece closing the Acropolis and schools due to a 43°C (109°F) heatwave. Meanwhile, the UK is experiencing unseasonably low temperatures and heavy rain. Across Europe and the Middle East, heatwaves are becoming more frequent and intense due to climate change, with temperatures exceeding 40°C in several countries and causing numerous deaths.
