US Faces Extreme Weather: Heat to Snow

Extreme Weather Patterns Sweep Across the United States

In recent days, Florida has experienced severe flooding, but now faces an intense heat wave. Other states are also preparing for extreme heat, while the Pacific Northwest is set to encounter unseasonably cold weather and potential late-season snow in the Rocky Mountains. The weather forecast includes the possibility of severe thunderstorms and flash flooding in areas between eastern Nebraska and northern Wisconsin, as well as strong storms from eastern Montana to the Dakotas.
A plume of tropical moisture is expected to bring heavy rain to the central Gulf Coast starting Monday. While the threat of heavy rain in Florida is decreasing, local flooding remains a concern due to already saturated soil, especially following storms that recently dumped up to 20 inches of rain between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. This comes as the early June start of hurricane season is forecasted to be particularly active, potentially exacerbated by climate change.
As floodwaters recede in Florida, temperatures are rising across much of the southern United States.
