10 Earthquakes Hit Island’s West Coast

Earthquake Cluster Detected Off Vancouver Island

In the past 24 hours, a series of earthquakes have been recorded off the west coast of Vancouver Island. The most significant quake, which occurred this morning, had a magnitude of 5.7 and was located approximately 230 kilometers southwest of Tofino at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey. Despite nine other quakes larger than magnitude 4 occurring in the same area, experts assert there is no risk to Islanders. The US Tsunami Warning Centre has confirmed there will be no tsunami or damage resulting from these quakes, though there is a strong likelihood of at least one aftershock within the next week.
